A sample question, in the course style
Planning an audit of a supplier, the auditor cannot find any document establishing who authorised it or on what basis. Which conclusion is most defensible?
- AAudit authority must be verified before planning proceeds, because it establishes the right of access
- BAuthority can be assumed from the fact that the client verbally requested the audit and approved its budget
- CAuthority is only relevant for third-party audits conducted under a scheme
- DAuthority is confirmed at the opening meeting rather than during planning
The 2026 BoK puts verifying audit authority at the head of the planning process, and the reason is practical rather than bureaucratic. Authority is what entitles the team to enter the site, see records and interview people. For an internal audit it comes from the audit programme mandate; for a second-party audit from a contract right-of-access clause; for a third-party audit from the certification agreement. Without it the auditor may arrive and be lawfully refused.
