A sample question, in the course style
A plant worked 620,000 hours last year and recorded 14 OSHA recordable cases. Corporate sets a threshold of 4.00 for mandatory intervention. Using rate = (cases x 200,000) / hours, does the plant breach the threshold?
- AYes, the rate is 4.52, which breaches the 4.00 threshold
- BNo, the rate is 2.26, which sits below the 4.00 threshold
- CYes, the rate is 22.58, which breaches the 4.00 threshold
- DNo, the rate is 0.45, which sits below the 4.00 threshold
Fourteen cases multiplied by 200,000 is 2,800,000, divided by 620,000 hours gives 4.52. That breaches the threshold. Note the trap in the distractor set: the same data expressed on a different base gives a very different number, so the base must always accompany the figure when it is compared against any benchmark.
