A sample question, in the course style
An adviser describes the economy as moving through a repeating four-stage sequence. That sequence, in order, is:
- Aexpansion, peak, contraction, trough
- Bpeak, expansion, trough, contraction
- Ctrough, contraction, peak, expansion
- Dinflation, recession, depression, recovery
The business cycle moves through expansion (rising output), a peak, contraction (falling output, a recession if it lasts two or more quarters), and a trough before recovering. GDP is the broad measure of output.
