A sample question, in the course style
Every fact in a draft engagement report is verifiable, but the report omits that management corrected the underlying weakness before fieldwork closed. Which attribute of effective communication is most directly breached?
- AObjective, because a communication that leaves out favourable information is by definition biased against the area under review
- BComplete, because a complete communication leaves out nothing essential to the target audience, and the correction changes what the reader should conclude about the current state
- CConstructive, because a report that fails to acknowledge a correction discourages the client from cooperating on future engagements and damages the goodwill the work relies on
- DAccurate, because a report describing a weakness that no longer exists cannot be a faithful record of the underlying facts
The seven attributes of effective communication are accurate, objective, clear, concise, constructive, complete, and timely. Complete is the attribute that fails when essential information is omitted; accurate fails when a stated fact is wrong; objective fails when presentation is biased.
